The pair first interacted in ECW as members of the larger Dudley family, a stable of humorous hillbillies. Bubba Ray (then known as 'Buh Buh Ray', for his distinctive stutter) fell in line with the family's comedic babyface antics, while D-Von rebelled, claiming that Dudleys were supposed to be ass-kickers, not dancing idiots. The pair feuded briefly, facing each on several occasions - most notably at Ultimate Jeopardy and November To Remember 1996 - and picking up one win each. Eventually Buh Buh turned heel and aligned with D-Von, kickstarting a reign of terror that would last for the remainder of their time in ECW. Over the course of three years, the pair won eight ECW World Tag Team Championships, and almost started riots with their incendiary promos, often badmouthing and calling out individual members of the crowd.
