9. They Had An Earlier 'Summer Of Punk' Angle
In 1999, the Dudleys were set to sign a deal with Vince McMahon and the WWF. In one of their last appearances, the second ever 'ECW on TNN' show, Buh Buh and D-Von won the tag team titles from Balls Mahoney and kayfabe half-brother Spike Dudley. They then cut a promo promising to take the titles with them to the World Wrestling Federation, incensing the fiercely loyal ECW crowd. Similar angles have become more prominent in recent times, most notably the two 'Summer of Punk' angles carried out in ROH and WWE by CM Punk. The Dudleys' version was far shorter than either of these, lasting mere minutes. The pair were interrupted and challenged by the makeshift team of Tommy Dreamer and Raven, a pair of fierce rivals under ordinary circumstances. The ECW loyalists won to a raucous reception, leading to one of the most "odd-couple" tag champion pairings in wrestling history.
