10 Things You Didn’t Know About WCW Halloween Havoc
5. Stan Hansen Didn't Want To End Lex Luger's US Title Run In 1990
A renowned tough guy, Stan 'The Man' Hansen was a raging success in Japan during his wrestling career. Right up until he retired in 2001, Hansen was regarded as one of the best foreign performers to ever lend his skills to the Orient. Japanese grappling fanatics looked on it awe at the man's hard-hitting style, meaning Hansen was far more comfortable in the country than his native United States. Of course, Stan Hansen did spent a lot of time wrestling in North America. Throughout the 1970's and 80's, he worked for the WWF, AWA and Mid-Atlantic promotions. In the early 90's, he also had a brief spell in World Championship Wrestling. Eventually, he'd fall out with management creatively, but not before working extensively with Lex Luger. The first match between the pair was at Halloween Havoc 1990. Right before the main event between Sting and Sid Vicious, Hansen defeated Luger to win the NWA United States Title. In later years, Hansen would assess that he felt the title switch was unnecessary. Perhaps surprisingly, Stan was a huge supporter of Luger's, and thought his 500+ day reign should have continued. Hansen would later drop the belt back to Lex at Starrcade that same year.
