10 Things You Didn't Know About WCW In 2000

5. 'No DQ' Angle Was Completely Ignored

During WCW's big 'relaunch' in time for Spring Stampede, announcers were instructed to inform people watching that things were changing in the promotion. Not only was World Championship Wrestling about to reclaim its spot as the top promotion in all the land (practically admitting that the past year or so had been utterly awful), but things were about to ramp up somewhat. One of the big rule changes was that WCW referees were told to be more lenient, relaxing the rules a little more and letting wrestlers bend them substantially before calling for the bell. Disqualifications were a thing of the past in this new WCW, commentator Tony Schiavone proudly beamed. Apparently, someone forgot to tell the actual officials, because during a match between The Wall and Scott Steiner on the Pay-Per-View, the former was disqualified for planting Steiner through a table. This directly went against what the announcers had been crowing about, which only further cemented in the minds of fans that nobody knew what was going on in WCW, or had a gameplan which could change things.
