10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE In 1992

1. The Entire Card For Summerslam 1992 Was Abruptly Changed

For those that don€™t know how WWF€™s booking went in the 1990s, they would tape WWF Superstars and Wrestling Challenge over one weekend every three weeks. Each taping would tape three weeks of television. The shows would air a couple weeks after they were originally taped. In the tapings after Wrestlemania, storylines were put in place for Summerslam. Originally, Randy Savage was supposed to defend the WWF Championship against Ric Flair in a rematch, Bret Hart would defend the Intercontinental Title against Shawn Michaels, The Ultimate Warrior would face Papa Shango (and everybody remembers the voodoo curse Shango put on Warrior which caused him to vomit), the Natural Disasters would face Money Inc. for the tag team titles, The Undertaker would face The Berzerker, Tatanka would face Rick Martel, and the British Bulldog would face the Repo Man. Up until the television tapings that took place during the first weekend of June 1992, that was the gameplan going into Summerslam. Even though no matches were officially announced, the booking from Wrestlemania up until that point had made the Summerslam card pretty clear. At the next round of tapings, taped over the last weekend of June (and beginning to air on July 18), plans had abruptly changed, and booking of the entire company was shifted to reflect the card we all remember: Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog for the Intercontinental Championship, Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior for the WWF Championship, Shawn Michaels vs. Rick Martel in a Don€™t Hit Me in the Face match, and Undertaker vs. Kamala, among others. Somehow, between the tapings during the first weekend of June and the tapings during the last weekend of June, Vince changed his mind about the entire booking direction of the company. The original booking was when Summerslam was scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. When the event was booked at Wembley Stadium, the entire card was shifted to feature Davey Boy Smith in the main event, and a Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior match that would fill a huge stadium better than a Savage vs. Flair match.
