With CM Punk poised to set the business on fire in the summer of 2011, WWE buckled to a number of his demands in order to get him to stay with the company (he was thinking about taking an extended break to recharge his batteries). He received a tour bus, first-class air travel and he also managed to secure a tryout for his best friend, independent wrestler Colt Cabana. Cabana had previously wrestled for the WWE between April 2007 and February 2009, to little fanfare: as Scotty Goldman, he was only used a couple of times on TV, in an enhancement role. Cabana (who sat ringside for Punk's famous Money in the Bank WWE Title win) wrestled Wade Barrett in a dark match at the August 2nd Smackdown tapings. Speaking to Power Slam magazine on August 28th, Cabana had this to say about his experience:
There was nothing but positive feedback. A lot of my best friends are wrestlers in WWE, and they were all trying to tell management what a great addition Id be. But, no, I havent heard anything: Im still unsigned...if they want to call, Ill listen to their phone call
