10 Things You Didn't Know About WWE SummerSlam

8. SummerSlam 1992 Could Have Featured WWE's First Ever Ladder Match And Taken Place In U.S

Amazingly, Bret versus Bulldog came very close to not happening at all (and it wasn't due to Smith's substance abuse problems, either). Not only that, but the even might not have even taken place from the United Kingdom, with Washington D.C. also touted as a possible venue. Bret revealed in a KC Commentaries shoot interview last year that while Bulldog versus Bret in Wembley was one plan, Vince was also weighing up the possibility of Bret versus Shawn Michaels in the nation's capital. The Michaels match would have also been WWE's first ever televised ladder match, a gimmick invented in Stampede in the late 1970s. The two had an untelevised (later released on video) ladder match in July, and this was to be the rematch. Of course, Wembley and the Davey Boy match got the nod, but WWE history was almost VERY different.
