It's no secret that Umaga was never utilized properly after suffering his first singles defeat at the hands of John Cena in January 2007. Though he remained with WWE for the next two years, he was never given the chance to reach his full potential.

His final feud in WWE came on the SmackDown brand in the spring of 2009 against CM Punk, who he prevented from cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at every turn. In their first ever one-on-one encounter at Judgement Day, Umaga emerged victorious.

Despite solidifying his dominance over him, he continued to seek out the former World Heavyweight champion and challenged him to a rematch at Extreme Rules; however, the stipulation was of his choosing, and he went with a Samoan Strap match.

There wasn't anything about the bout that made it any different from a regular Strap match other than it was, well, Samoan. They made the most of the silly stipulation and had a fine outing, but in the end, it was simply too stupid to take seriously.

With one GTS, Punk secured victory against Umaga before going on to cash in his contract and win the world title later on that night. The next day, Umaga was released from the company, never to step foot in a WWE ring again before his unfortunate death that December.
