10 Things You Learn Binge Watching Every WWE Raw From 1998

4. Stone Cold Shouldn't Have Lost The Title

Steve Austin was 1998's kingpin. As the top anti-hero in pro wrestling, he delighted crowds by making Vince McMahon's life a misery, winning the WWF Title at 'Mania and becoming seriously hot sh*t. Then, he hit quite the speed bump in June. It didn't make any sense then and it doesn't make any sense now.

Kane should not have won that belt at King Of The Ring. Why the WWF felt the need to temporarily disrupt Austin's flow is anyone's guess; he regained the title 24 hours later on Raw, which didn't do much for Kane and, again, spoiled Austin's momentum. He should've been champ for the entire year.

It's baffling to re-watch.

The company booked themselves into a corner by programming Austin with Kane in the first place. Neither man could really afford to lose face when they were working different feuds (Austin with McMahon and Kane with The Undertaker). It was a stupid decision.
