10 Things You Learn Binge Watching Every WWE Raw From 1999

3. Vince McMahon’s Title Reign Shouldn’t Have Happened

This was rubbish.

WCW detractors often giggle at Vince Russo booking himself as World Champ in 2000, and rightly so. However, staunch WWE loyalists also ignore the fact that Vince McMahon actually played that card before Russo had the chance. It wasn't as offensively terrible, but it wasn't great either.

McMahon won the WWF Title from Triple H on the 16 September '99 episode of SmackDown. Come Raw the following Monday, Vince decided to vacate the belt so others could scrap for it in a 'Six-Pack Challenge' at Unforgiven. Why? Who knows. The whole thing was ridiculously pointless.

A Vince title reign might've worked had it been longer or a little earlier. After all, he did work matches when the occasion called for it, and he was one of the top characters in late-90s wrestling. This short spell as champ, in retrospect, was a mistake though.
