10 Things You Learn From Watching 1990 On The WWE Network

9. The Promo Style Was Insane

It's not exclusive to the Royal Rumble, because this was peppered throughout every show of the era, but the Rumble pay-per-view features more promos than any other. Right before the beloved 30-man match, pretty much all of the entrants are given around 30 seconds with which to work with in front of the camera.

Comparing the more muted tone in promos today with 1990 is like making a comparison between a love ballad and death metal. Absolutely everyone has bulging eyes, talks at a million miles a minute and shouts directly at the camera like they're delivering the most passionate speech of their lives.

It's incredibly entertaining, there's nothing negative about proclaiming the promo style from that era as insane. If anything, performers today should be taking a page from the book of guys like Dusty Rhodes, The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan.

Even Jim Duggan, Dino Bravo and others have something to say, all delivered at high volume and right in your face.
