10 Things You Learn From Watching 1991 On The WWE Network
5. The Retirement Match Stole The Show At WrestleMania
It must have been disappointing for The Ultimate Warrior to learn that he had to drop the WWF Heavyweight Title to Sgt. Slaughter at the Royal Rumble. When Hulk Hogan first won the gold in 1984, he was afforded nearly 4 years in the hot seat. Sadly for Warrior, his first reign lasted less than a full year.
That can't have been pleasing for the man behind the Warrior character. Come WrestleMania VII, Warrior went up against 'Macho Man' Randy Savage in a huge Retirement Match. Falling smack bang in the middle of the card, both men looked like they had something to prove.
Completely outdoing Hogan's match against Slaughter in the main event, Savage and Warrior constructed a true classic. Some have even went as far to say the 'Mania VII battle was the best match of Ultimate Warrior's entire career. It's hard to argue with that, it was superb.
Nothing before or after the Retirement Match could come close, Warrior vs. Savage is definitely the best bout on the WrestleMania VII card.
