10 Things You Learn From Watching 1991 On The WWE Network
3. Promotion For This Tuesday In Texas Overshadowed Survivor Series
Right from the off at the 1991 Survivor Series, on screen WWF President Jack Tunney was talking about something other than the event fans were about to see. Instead, the authority figure focused on the ongoing blood feud between Randy Savage and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts.
In particular, Tunney discussed an angle from WWF Superstars in which Savage was apparently bitten by one of Jake's reptiles. This set up a match between both men set to go down at a special pay-per-view called This Tuesday In Texas. Unbelievably, the company were choosing to bypass Survivor Series and look forward to another show just around one week later.
Adding to the idea that the WWF were blowing off Survivor Series recklessly, The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan ended up battling over the WWF Heavyweight Title twice in quick succession on pay-per-view.
Almost immediately, the Survivor Series match meant little, all eyes were supposed to be on This Tuesday In Texas. This would prove to be a risky strategy by the promotion, they were pretty much telling fans that Survivor Series was a warm up for the new show.
