10 Things You Need To Know About Past WWE Road To WrestleManias
7. The Elimination Chamber
WWE debuted the Elimination Chamber match at the 2002 Survivor Series. It was an instant hit with fans. More importantly, it cost $500,000 to make. That of course meant that WWE was going to use it again. The next Chamber match was at SummerSlam 2003 and then after that it was used on the Road to WrestleMania. In 2005, the Elimination Chamber was used to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion after the title had been declared vacant. Triple H won by last eliminating Orton, but the real story going into the match was whether or not Triple H and Batista would be able to co-exist. WWE wheeled out the Chamber for the 2006 edition of New Year's Revolution, with Cena overcoming the odds in a match oddly bereft of real stars (Carlito and Chris Masters, anyone?). Afterwards, however, Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank title shot and beat Cena for his first World Championship. At No Way Out 2008 and 2009, WWE presented two Chamber matches on the Road to WrestleMania before finally just renaming the event Elimination Chamber in 2010. The event was a hit because it usually boasted at least one good-to-great Chamber outing and there would usually be huge storyline developments that directly effected the WrestleMania card (such as Shawn Michaels costing The Undertaker the World Heavyweight Title in 2010). However, WWE decided to discontinue the tradition and present the utterly banal Fastlane in 2015 instead. Here's hoping that WWE resurrects the Chamber in a year or two.
