Triple H was 46-years-old when he won the Royal Rumble (and with it, the WWE Championship) in 2016. That's a year older than Shawn Michaels was when he decided to hang up his boots, and just a couple younger than silver-fox Sean Connery when he filmed his last Bond film.

And whilst that advancing age alone is no reason for him to sit on the sidelines, there were surely other wrestlers more deserving of a chance to wear the mantle of WrestleMania's leading man (even if the company was facing an injury crisis right around the same time).

On paper, it served a purpose, although since the fans never got behind Roman Reigns - even when he was pitted against Trips and Steph - you have to wonder whether it really was "best for business" after all.
