10 Times A Major WWE Championship Changed Hands On "The Road To WrestleMania"

4. Mankind Def. The Rock/ The Rock Def. Mankind For The WWF Championship (Halftime Heat/Raw, February 1999)

Two for the price of one!

After getting his head caved in with a chair at Royal Rumble 1999, Mick Foley was (understandably) quite keen to get his own back on WWF Champion, The Rock.

A rematch was made for Halftime Heat, which aired during Super Bowl XXXIII. Not on the same channel, but it still aired.

This Empty Arena match saw Rocky and Mankind brawl everywhere, before Mick finally pinned Dwayne using a forklift truck. Mankind was now WWF Champion for the second time in his career.

However, on the 15 February episode of Raw, The Rock killed Foley's WrestleMania dreams (and damned near killed him too) during a championship rematch.

The ladder match was just as brutal as any of the two men's previous encounters, with Foley taking several sick bumps from the top of ladders and even the stands.

The match ended when Foley was stopped from climbing the ladder by The Big Show. This allowed The Great One to take his championship back, setting up a WrestleMania XV showdown with Stone Cold Steve Austin.

That won't be the last time these two crop up in this list.
