10 Times A Special Guest Referee Actually Improved A Wrestling Match

9. The Rock Vs. Triple H (Judgment Day 2000) - Ref: Shawn Michaels

It's never a bad idea to have an animated referee during an hour-long Iron Man Match. It just gives the audience a little something extra to pay attention to during the slower moments. (Not that there were too many of those during this excellent display, but still.) Michaels sold every move with dramatic cringing, acting like most of the fans in attendance who just happened to get thrown a ref's shirt and asked to officiate just before the match started. The violent maneuvers were given even more pizzazz thanks to Michaels and his expressive face and visible shudders. Of course, the most famous moment from this particular round of HBK-as-REF involved the ridiculous amounts of interference coming from DX, The McMahons, and pretty much anyone else in back that wasn't already half in the bag by the end of the night. To counteract the 6-on-1 beating that this devolved into after Michaels was incapacitated (while trying to keep order because, remember, there was no love lost between HBK and HHH at the time), The Undertaker came out to the ring to clean house. But Michaels cleared the cobwebs just in time to see Taker give the Tombstone to Triple H, which by rule, gave the deciding win to Hunter.
