10 Times Famous Wrestlers Shared A Nickname
6. Wade Barrett and Bad News Brown
Allen Coage is an interesting character.
An extremely talented practitioner of Judo, Coage was initially barred from the US team at the 1976 Summer Olympics, but was eventually added to the team after a class action lawsuit was filed.
Coage would then go on to take the bronze medal at the event, becoming the first solo African-American to win an Olympic medal in a sport other than boxing or athletics.
Coage also won judo gold in two Pan-American games before signing with the WWF in 1988. Here, he was known as "Bad News Brown", the ultra-tough loner who loved to get on people's wrong sides. Years after Brown stopped throwing Ghetto Blasters, another ultra-tough fighter started using the "Bad News" name.
Wade Barrett had managed to cling to some midcard success in WWE, even after his Nexus stable was booked into oblivion.
He also found success on The JBL and Cole Show, a web series starring the eponymous commentators. On the show, Barrett appeared to give WWE superstars "Bad News", leading to his famous catchphrase "I'm afraid I've got some Bad News".
Barrett adopted the Bad News name on WWE TV in 2013 after taking time off TV to sort a work Visa issue, following in the footsteps of another grizzled brawler decades before.
