CM Punk's WWE Situation Just Took Another Twist... (WWE News)

The latest on CM Punk's potential WWE return tonight.

With plentiful speculation that CM Punk could make his grand return on tonight's episode of Raw, there's now somewhat of an update on the Second City Saint's WWE status.

Of course, tonight's Raw just so happens to take place in Punk's hometown of Chicago - the Allstate Arena, to be precise - and so there's been heavy rumblings that this could see a first appearance from the Straight-Edge Superstar since the Raw after WrestleMania 42. Having lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at 'Mania 42, that Raw saw Punker share the ring with Cody Rhodes and tease something between the two for further down the line.

As the Wrestling Observer points out, CM Punk is not currently advertised for tonight's Raw, though it was noted that he'd been pushing to return on this show. Despite Punk pushing for that, the Observer notes that it's not 100% guaranteed that Punk appears tonight.

What is advertised for Raw, though, is Cody Rhodes challenging new WWE Champion Sami Zayn, Sol Ruca defending the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Raquel Rodriguez, and the Vision getting a WWE Tag Team Titles rematch against the Street Profits. On top of that, Seth Rollins will open the show, and Oba Femi will address his decision to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam next month.

Previous reports note that CM Punk is expected to be part of the SmackDown brand as and when he makes his return, and making his presence known during or after that Rhodes vs. Zayn match - for SmackDown's top men's prize - would certainly be one way to facilitate that jump to WWE's blue brand.
