10 Times Fighters Used Their Signature Move In A Movie
1. Gina Carano - Haywire
Before Amanda Nunes, before Holly Holm, even before Ronda Rousey, the number one star of women's combat sports in the west was a Muay Thai fighter named Gina Carano.
After transitioning from striking into MMA, Carano was a promoter's dream with her charm and marketability mixed with potent striking skills inside the cage. Carano's final fight would see her fall short in attempting to capture the Strikeforce Women's Featherweight Championship against Cris Cyborg.
Unlike many of her contemporaries on this list, Carano fully committed to a career on the screen after hanging up her gloves and has gone on to considerable success. Carano has gone from strength to strength in her acting career; most recently she was cast in The Mandalorian, portraying Cara Dune, for which she received critical acclaim.
In her debut starring role in the 2011 film Haywire, Carano demonstrates a variety of MMA-inspired techniques during her fight with co-star Michael Fassbender. Carano also shows off her Muay Thai background, landing a series of strikes showcasing the variety of the 'art of eight limbs'.
