Batista was always destined for the main event. Actually, that should read: the moment he stopped following around Reverend D'Von whilst carrying a church collection box, Batista was always destined for the main event.
But his pathway to the top was much longer than that of, for example, Brock Lesnar (with whom he shares a great deal in common - namely, a 40 inch neck).
Instead of being rushed into the World Title scene, Batista was first (or, more accurately, second) introduced as a dogsbody for Evolution leader Triple H.
