10 Times Major WWE Stars Missed WrestleMania

WrestleMania 32 isn't the first to be plagued by misfortune.

When WrestleMania 32 was first announced for Arlington, Texas's AT&T Stadium, the company had grand hopes - with a venue that could hold WWE's largest crowd ever, only the most attractive card would do. Stars past and present were contacted with the hope of adding to the allure of the biggest WrestleMania of all time. Unfortunately, WWE's number one enemy in putting the show together was bad luck. Mainstream celebrities The Rock and Ronda Rousey planned on competing but contractually couldn't, while top stars John Cena, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and Daniel Bryan all saw their careers put on hold - or ended - due to injury. As a consequence, just about every major match WWE had planned on delivering had to be abandoned. WWE was forced to cobble together a card out of their remaining talents, and while the top matches have now been announced, the ultimate success of the show remains to be seen. Still, decision-makers have some experience when it comes to shuffling around WrestleMania since it's happened many times in the past. Many of the company's previous WrestleManias (especially in modern times) have been marred by the injury or unavailability of a top superstar. Granted, the misfortune this year is in a class of its own, but the realities of running a wrestling promotion have often taken their toll on the show of shows. Here are 10 instances in the past where major stars missed WrestleMania.
