10 Times NXT Was As Dumb As WWE's Main Roster
5. Andrade Is A Luchador Hipster Waiter
Back in late 2015, WWE announced the signing of CMLL star La Sombra, a revered luchador and multi-time champion, who would report to the Performance Centre in preparation for his debut in NXT.
There were early and high levels of excitement for the star. Not only was he a third-generation athlete, but NXT was on a pretty good run of bringing in talent, with Asuka, Apollo Crews, Kevin Owens, Rich Swann and Finn Bálor all making their NXT debuts within the previous 12 months.
Unfortunately, early appearances of the soon-to-be Andrade weren't quite of the expected standard in NXT. Opting to forego his traditional mask, NXT had essentially a blank canvas of a superstar to create, and what they made was a feather-hat, braces-wearing kinda generic babyface with not much of a direction. Eeking a short but still mildly exciting match against Tye Dillinger, Andrade would turn debutant fodder for Bobby Roode just two months later, before meandering aimlessly throughout the bottom of the card with Cedric Alexander, No Way Jose and Cezar Bononi.
It wasn't until the introduction of Zelina Vega, who could act as his mouthpiece whilst he developed his English skills, where Andrade would start turning into the unfathomably good talent we have now.
