10 Times Really Weird S*it Happened At WrestleMania

6. Piper Divided

WWE Network

For his WrestleMania VI bout against Bad News Brown, Rowdy Roddy Piper made the questionable choice to paint himself black - but only on one side of his body. It was Piper's clumsily-executed grand statement of racial equality around the time of Nelson Mandela's vastly publicised release from prison and the beginning of the end of Apartheid.

Whilst Piper's intentions might have been noble, the particularly stark shade of black paint, ordered specially by Vince McMahon to not fade from his body due to sweat, gave off a much stranger and troubling image than it did a potent one. One amusing story as told by Piper is that Andre the Giant played an immense prank on him that night by switching out the special solution to remove the paint for water, leaving Piper half-black for the rest of the night and indeed most of the following month.

A commendable intention from Piper's creative mind, but in retrospect it's a curious and confusing look that Piper perhaps should have chosen to reject.
