10 Times Shane McMahon's Ego Ran Wild In WWE
1. Retiring The European Championship
When Shane McMahon first stepped into active competition, many heads unsurprisingly began to shake, but he more than exceeded audiences’ low expectations. While he was no A grade performer, he worked far better than expected. Giving him the European championship was going a bit too far, but his matches were far from unwatchable, so no one really cared too much.
Then, 43 days into his reign, he decided to vacate the title, wanting to retire as an undefeated champion. The title was declared vacant, and nearly three months later Mideon happened upon the belt in Shane’s bag, with the boss’ son declaring the former pig farmer the new champ, because why not.
It’s impossible to see who this helped. Shane looked like a spoiled brat, not a dastardly heel. Mideon was given nothing from the angle. Most of all, the European championship was made out to be a plaything. If a McMahon didn’t care about it, why should we?
This was Shane acting out just because he could, undoing his decent work to this point. It did nothing but harm to the belt and his brand.
