10 Times Shawn Michaels Dragged His Opponents To A Good Match

5. Chris Masters (Unforgiven 2005)

At Unforgiven 2005, Chris Masters and Shawn Michaels met in a typical veteran/rookie clash. Masters had just debuted a few months prior to the match, was given a rapid push to the top due to his impressive size and physique. Most people expected Michaels to easily win due to his experience (which he did) but there was always room for doubt, especially owing to Masters’ key weapon: The Masterlock. The Masterlock had been billed as unbreakable up to that point, and Michaels took it’s intimidation and sold it to perfection.

For the duration of the match, Michaels made the Masterlock look deadly, finding every possible escape and even cheating to avoid being caught in it. Masters’ was made to look even stronger in defeat, a rare occurrence, when Michaels barely hit a superkick for the win.

Michaels’ ability to selflessly make his opponent look strong without making himself look weak was perfectly exhibited here. Although Masters wouldn’t go on to do anything revolutionary, Michaels performed like an absolute pro here, and gave Masters the best match of his career.
