Virgil occupies an extremely strange place in professional wrestling. He is arguably one of the most notorious performers of the early '90s, something of a larger than life character today thanks to social media and the ironic humour of the current generation. When you think back to his career however, he barely had any matches, let alone matches of note.

He did have nine months in the sun however, starting at the Royal Rumble in 1991 when he finally stood up for himself against 'The Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase. The story was perfectly done, and when he clocked Ted the crowd in attendance went absolutely bonkers. All of which led to a match between the two at SummerSlam that same year.

After all sorts of shenanigans featuring Sensational Sherri and referee Earl Hebner, Virgil rams Dibiase's head into the exposed steel turnbuckle and picks up the 1-2-3. The crowd lose their collective poop, and for the briefest moment Virgil was the most over babyface in professional wrestling.

The match is great purely because of how into it the crowd were. It is amazing how much easier it is to watch wrestling when a crowd is losing their minds over everything.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
