10 Times The PPV After WrestleMania Was Better

8. Backlash (1999)

Unlike today's tact of using WrestleMania as a way of closing out the pervious 'season' of WWE's programming and starting the next, Mania was simply part of the wider storyline in 1990's WWE. This made the event feel that little less special, but certainly brought the prominence of the other PPV's of the year to a level they never saw before, and a level they've arguably never seen since. WrestleMania XV was a bumper card did didn't give us much in the way of 'WrestleMania moments'. The highlights, if some of these can even be considered in a good light, came in the form of the Brawl for All competition coming to its conclusion, Chyna's double-cross in the match between Kane and Triple H, The Big Boss Man's handing after his Hell In The Cell with The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin defeating The Rock for the WWF Championship. Backlash, rather than featuring a whole host of new storylines, continued with the norm and saw another bumper card continue a series of long and compelling stories. Almost everything taken to the next level. The highlight of the night was Stone Cold and Rocky's No Holds Barred match, with Austin fighting to reclaim his Smoking Skull Championship belt which The Rock had previously stolen from him. At the conclusion of the match, Vince came down to the ring and presented Austin with his Smoking Skull only for the cameras to cut to the parking lot and to the limo where Stephanie McMahon was being looked after by policemen in the midst of The Undertaker's attempts to kidnap her and take control of the WWF. The policemen instructed the driver to pull away after a number of The Ministry came on the scene only for it to be revealed that Taker was driving the car. Cue him to utter that famously demonic line of: "Where to, Stephanie? Hahahaha..." Brilliant story telling.
