The controversial entry. It's not that WrestleMania XIX was a bad Mania, it's just that for this fan in particular, the following Backlash featured something that had been building for the previous three-and-a-bit years, plus all the way through the Monday Night Wars. The WWE in-ring debut of Goldberg. Mania 19 was glittered with fantastic matches from start to finish. Jericho/Michaels, Booker/HHH, Rock/Austin (SCSA's retirement match), and even Hogan/McMahon made it one of the better Manias of all time. But the fact that the WWE Universe had been starved of Goldberg for over three years since the closing down of WCW made his debut arguably the most anticipated in WWE histroy. And he was put up against The Rock. An unadulterated dream match by anyone's standards. That wasn't it for Backlash 2003 as a number of tag team matches made it a different feeling yet all the same fantastic card. We saw Team Angle vs. Los Guerreros; Rob Van Dam and Kane vs. The Dudley Boyz; Triple H, Ric Flair, and Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, and Booker T while singles bouts between Big Show vs. Rey Mysterio and last but certainly not least, Lesnar vs. Cena rounded things off nicely. Nevertheless, Goldberg's debut took precedence over everything that happened in 2003.
