10 Times The Undertaker Genuinely Defied Expectations In WWE

WrestleMania 29 had a triple main-event designed to thrill the WWE Universe, but if we're being completely honest, only one of them lived up to expectations. No, that's not right; it exceeded expectations.

CM Punk was frustrated with the company that wouldn't give him his due while The Undertaker only competed once a year. Adding to that, the pair's series of matches in 2009 were sorely underwhelming - and while a lot of that had to do with brevity, it did seem like their 'Showcase of Immortals' showdown was doomed to be overshadowed by The Rock and SuperCena II.

It's hard to fully describe the grandeur of the spectacle that the pair put on. Fueled by the tragic real-life death of Paul Bearer, their physical contest told an incredible story as the aging 'Taker threw his 'five-star Phenom' persona to the side in order to avenge the disrespect that Punk had shown his longtime friend. The irony, however, is that this ultimately enabled them to deliver a classic - one built upon storytelling and raw emotion.

In spite of his age and his limited schedule, 'Taker showed no signs of ring-rust and he absolutely thrived in the ring against the much younger 'Best In The World' as the two went on to deliver what was undoubtedly Match of the Year.
