10 Times UFC Fighters Won In Defeat
3. Rory MacDonald (Vs. Robbie Lawler 2, UFC 189)
Here we have another fight which could rightly be considered the greatest contest in UFC history and when that just so happens to be the case, can you really have a loser on the night?
Sure, Rory MacDonald was TKO'd in the closing stages of this Welterweight title bout at UFC 189 and Robbie Lawler had his hand raised for the stunning comeback victory, but none of that really matters in hindsight.
Then-champ Lawler had already beaten MacDonald once before at UFC 167. However, that fight went to the judges scorecards after three rounds. This fight on the other hand, would be scheduled for five and what a five rounds we got.
Beating lumps out of each other for four rounds straight, by the time the pair made it to the fifth they both looked as though they'd been bludgeoned by a sledgehammer. Lawler's lip was horrifically split and MacDonald's nose had caved in. It was brutal.
Yet, despite all of this both men refused to let up. Then, as MacDonald looked as though he was about to become the new champ - due to winning three of the previous four rounds - Lawler dug down deep in the fifth and caught the challenger with a couple of nasty lefts which forced 'The Red King' to retreat onto the ground.
Lawler may have retained the gold, but this Hall of Fame battle between two modern day gladiators ensured that the champ and the challenger MacDonald would be remembered forever.
