10 Times UFC Fighters Won In Defeat
2. Darren Till (Vs. Tyron Woodley, UFC 228)
Coming into his UFC Welterweight title clash with Tyron Woodley at UFC 228, Darren Till was arguably the fastest rising star in the company.
He'd already beaten the likes of Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone and Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson, and had firmly established himself as a top contender in the division.
Yet, despite this it was well known that Till had trouble cutting weight in this class and his fight against the aforementioned Thompson was even made into a catchweight bout due to him missing weight.
When he was faced with the purest of Welterweight's in the form of then-Champion Woodley, though, Till did manage to make weight. However, Woodley caught Till with a delicious counter right in the second round which planted the Scouser on his a*se.
Till spent the rest of the fight on his back being clobbered into the mat, before getting caught in a D'Arce choke and tapping out soon after.
It was clear from this showing that Till wasn't equipped to take on the best in this division and a change-up was certainly needed.
He made the decision to finally move up to a comfier weight and beat Kelvin Gastelum in his Middleweight debut at UFC 244 via split decision.
This defeat against Woodley gave Till the push he needed to go and solidify himself as a serious contender in another division. If it hadn't have happened, who knows what kind of danger he could have put his body in by continually punishing it with extreme weight cuts?
