The Lex Express was supposed to carry WWE very far after Lex Luger slammed the mighty Yokozuna in July of 1993. He was supposed to be their next Hulk Hogan. This came right after Hogan left the company after dropping the WWE Title to Yokozuna and Luger was the heir apparent. Luger received a WWE Title push with a match against Yokozuna at SummerSlam 1993. Going into the match, most people thought Luger was going to win because the babyface usually goes over in a setting like that. While Luger won the match, he didn't win the WWE Title. Apparently somewhere along the way, WWE management lost their faith in him. At the 1994 Royal Rumble, he tied Bret Hart as the last man eliminated and Hart went on to become WWE Champ while Luger never held the coveted title. They did all they could to make Luger into the next huge superstar, but it just didn't happen. He didn't have the personality of Hogan or of other top guys that could really get a crowd excited. He was just a basic wrestler. By 1995, he jumped back to WCW and was never in WWE again. Lex Luger should have been a huge star in WWE. Instead, he was one of their biggest disappointments. Nobody was more disappointed than Vince himself.
