The death of Owen Hart was a tragedy, and the money aspect of it is insignificant, human life is priceless. But Martha Hart (Owen's widow) did end up getting a settlement of $18 Million from the WWF, which was awarded on November 7th 2000. Owen's death on May 23rd 1999 had ended up costing McMahon significantly. Owen had fallen seventy eight feet from the rafters of the Kemper Arena, after a safety harness malfunctioned. Martha Hart had sued on the grounds that the WWF failed to provide safe equipment and didn't have a stunt co-ordinator. "The WWF's initial offer of $17 million was rejected. The case then settled for $18 million after mediation. Harts wife will receive $10 million, the children will get $3 million each and Harts parents will get $1 million each." Missouri Lawyers Weekly reported.
