10 Times Vince McMahon Was The World's Strangest Boss
9. Stand Back! A McMahon Musical Experience
Corporate World: Enthusiasm in the product breeds confidence in the public. Vince World: Steal Neil Diamonds shirts, add Solid Gold dancers, sing your ass off. For a man who has the word Entertainment in the title of his company, Vince has pretty strange ideas about what actually qualifies as entertainment at times. For instance, the Slammy Awards are a thing. The Slammys are an awards show for a sport that already has winners and losers that are chosen beforehand, a bit off, right? Furthermore, the Slammys are broadcast on television and its not like The Golden Globes where you can just show up, have a few cocktails and pretend Ricky Gervais is really funny. The superstars actually had to perform musical numbers during the show including the infamous original tune, Stand Back. Musically, Stand Back makes Slam Jam look like Unchained Melody. Vince cannot really sing or dance so its surprising he decided to sing and dance as part of a televised award show. Some men give speeches from balconies, some go for the big stadium, McMahon choses the venue of the award show to lay out his grand vision for total domination. His total confidence in spite of all the dorky trappings suggest a single minded tenacity and vision that is almost frightening in its certainty. As Bret Hart described in his book. "Hitman:My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling, " ... the message of the lyrics he belted out-all about how no one could stop him as he headed for the top-wasnt lost on wrestlers who had rehearsed and then performed a show for him three times in the space of twenty-four hours, with no food or drink provided... The clip actually gets replayed quite often by wrestlers as a source of kitschy humor now.
