10 Times WCW Stuck It To Vince McMahon

1. Had WWF Over A Barrel During Bret Hart Saga

As early as 1996, Eric Bischoff was interested in signing Bret 'Hitman' Hart to WCW. Knowing Vince McMahon's WWF were on shaky ground financially, Bischoff played devil's advocate, throwing a bumper, $3 million per year offer Hart's way. The WWF couldn't compete with that, so McMahon used Bret's loyalty, offering him a 20-year deal which would be worth more than the WCW contract over the piece.

In the words of Hart, he wanted to stick with the WWF, where he felt most comfortable. However, he was also keenly aware that he could make an awful lot of money in a short space of time with WCW, and was tempted by the offer. Eventually, things all boiled to the point of McMahon screwing Hart out of the WWF Title shortly before the wrestler was set to join WCW in late-1997.

Eric Bischoff had Vince McMahon in his pocket here. As it would turn out, Bret Hart was never really used effectively in WCW, but he was one of the biggest stars in the industry before joining them. Bischoff seemed to be toying with the WWF during negotiations, figuring that if he could capture Hart, he'd have Vince McMahon running scared. The WWF simply could not challenge the money Bischoff had at his disposal.
