10 Times WCW Stuck It To Vince McMahon
8. Had The Best Roster In History At One Point
Looking at the roster WCW had in 1997 makes for incredible reading. Not only did the promotion have a myriad of top stars from the glory days of the WWF's mainstream run from the mid-80's till the early-90's, they had a wealth of other talents. From Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, to Ultimo Dragon and Eddie Guerrero, there was such depth to the WCW talent pool.
Joining those names were the likes of Ric Flair, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho. Even stars like Lex Luger and The Giant had value, and the WWF roster simply couldn't compete with what WCW had to offer. Obviously, things would start to change as stars like Steve Austin, Triple H and The Rock started to emerge, but WCW in 1997 had an enviable position.
By contrast, as the calendar turned to '97, Vince McMahon didn't have an awful lot at his disposal. Outside of The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, he had precious few stars fans were genuinely interested in seeing work main events. The roster was a little more paper thin that WCW's, which makes it all the more intriguing that it would be this weight in numbers that the Atlanta-based promotion would eventually struggle to accommodate.
