10 Times WCW Stuck It To Vince McMahon

7. Bischoff Challenging McMahon To Fight Called Vince's Bluff

Eric Bischoff was sure a cocky individual during the height of his fame. Running riot as the head of WCW, Bischoff felt himself untouchable, something he has noted during many interviews since the late-90s'. Naturally, this caught the attention of the wrestling media, who often compared Bischoff's methods to those preferred by Vince McMahon.

Around this time, many people theorised that McMahon was out of touch with his audience. By contrast, Eric Bischoff was cool, hip, and had his finger on the pulse of America. Things are obviously fickle, because the exact reverse was being said about both men just a few years later, but 'Easy E' did look a little more savvy than Vince on occasion.

Playing to the gallery, Bischoff challenged McMahon to a legitimate fight. Wrestling fans were giddy at the prospect, but Eric reasoned that Vince would have to come and battle him on a WCW Pay-Per-View. This was little more than a PR stunt by WCW, because there was no way McMahon was going to accept the offer and show up at Slamboree 1998.

According to Vince Russo, McMahon was close to accepting the offer, because he felt challenged as a man. Imagine such a thing actually happening, it seems implausible, but it also seems Bischoff managed to get under Vince's skin.
