6. nWo Story Worked Because It Was Thinly-Veiled WWF Invasion

By far the best idea that Eric Bischoff ever came up with during his time in charge of WCW was the New World Order. The whole thing started with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall 'invading' the company, and the insinuation was there that they had come down from the WWF to cause mayhem.

That was the most brilliant aspect of the nWo, that very suggestion. WCW announcers, including Eric Bischoff, didn't outright say that Hall and Nash had been sent by Vince McMahon, but they didn't need to. Fans were, in essence, creating their own drama, and it made for extremely powerful television that helped WCW tenfold.

When Hulk Hogan shockingly joined these 'Outsiders' to form the nWo, it only heightened the idea that former WWF stars were trying to take over WCW. This was genius, because it was effectively a case of Bischoff using the sheer size and history of the WWF against them.

At least initially, the nWo was a fantastic faction, because it came across as undeniably dangerous. The fact that fans were thinking of it as a legit invasion was simply the icing on the cake. WCW made millions of dollars off the back of Vince McMahon's business.
