10 Times WCW Was The Best Wrestling In The World
9. The Original Evil Authority Figure
I hope that this isn't too much of a spoiler, but the nWo will be heavily featured throughout this list. It was, after all, the catalyst for arguably the hottest period in the history of professional wrestling. While the WWE ultimately won the fabled Monday night war with the creation of the infamous Stone Cold vs. Vince McMahon storyline, it may not have necessarily been an entirely original idea.
One of the largest plot holes during the nWo’s onset was their logistics. Where did they get the money to pay for this top talent? How were the able to buy airtime for those notorious self-congratulating advertisements? Some of that was explained through the recruitment of Ted DiBiase, WWE's Million-Dollar Man, but WCW had one more trick up its sleeve.
Accosted by Roddy Piper on an episode of Nitro, Eric Bischoff was eventually flanked by the nWo - at that time still a relatively small, elite stable. Bischoff revealed that he had been a member of the group all along. Bischoff had helped facilitate this invasion while keeping up appearances as a commentator and WCW executive. Easy E even went as far as to have Kevin Nash powerbomb him through a stage in order to sell the ruse.
Keep in mind that this reveal happened in November 1996, a full year before the Montreal Screwjob. Bischoff's character certainly had different quirks than the conniving Mr. McMahon, but was the first example of the detestable boss villain working perfectly on a national level.
