It is a testament to the effectiveness of the New World Order that so many memorable moments in WCW's history were created based upon individuals rising up and resisting their all-consuming invasion. And while audience members thrilled at the heroics of larger-than-life superheroes doing battle with the very soul of the wrestling company on the line, there is something to be said of the eternal appeal of the journey of the everyman.

Diamond Dallas Page's story is a famous one. Starting his in-ring career far later than most, he worked as a lower-midcard heel through much of the early '90s in WCW before emerging as an antihero of sorts, dishing out a Diamond Cutter on anyone who crossed his path. The effectiveness and versatility of the maneuver increased Page's stock in the company.

When the nWo invasion began in earnest, Page was courted by the group, playing on his history as a former tag partner of both Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. For weeks, the two would assist Page in reaching the finals of a US title tournament. Spurning their aid, The Outsiders cost Page in the finals of the tournament before issuing one final ultimatum.

Page debated before flattening the duo with a pair of Diamond Cutters, cementing a face run that would see him collide with Randy Savage, in what became Savage's last great feud. Witnessing Page's organic ascension to the upper echelon endeared him to the audience in a way few stars of the era could hope to achieve.
