The steel cage match was, in its heyday, the final word when it came to settling a feud one-on-one. However, in the early days of WCW, often times conflicts raged between more than two men. The Four Horsemen would be embroiled with Sting, Dusty Rhodes, and the Road Warriors simultaneously. Paul Heyman's Dangerous Alliance again targeted Sting, who would receive backup from Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Steamboat. When it came to settling these titanic grudges, only one match could finish these feuds: the almighty War Games.

Two rings were surrounded by a massive cage that provided ample room for all the combatants. The match consisted of each team alternating entrants, adding natural strategy and storytelling to the proceedings. Once every participant had entered the unforgiving structure, the match could only be won, famously, by either submission or surrender.

War Games was a revolutionary creation from Dusty Rhodes. The match was unparalleled in its brutality until the creation of the Hell in a Cell. Blood would flow freely in each encounter. The spectacle of the massive edifice coupled with the prospect of seeing all of the biggest names in WCW duking it out for supremacy was unlike anything else in wrestling.

The match was so beloved, so dreaded, that WWE brought the stipulation back in 2017 for the NXT brand, where the Undisputed Era has become this generations Horsemen stand-in. An endearing legacy for one of the most captivating stipulations in wrestling history.
