10 Times WCW Went Way Too Far

9. The Human Torch Match

Sometimes wrestling feuds stem from complex, interesting narratives with years of backstory and character motivation. Sometimes wrestling feuds stem from "Hey, both those dudes wear facepaint." Sting and Vampiro formed a tag-team called "Brothers In Paint" that quickly dissolved when Vampiro attacked Sting and cost him the WCW United States Championship. The rivalry lasted a couple of months until it reached the "Human Torch" match as The Great American Bash 2000. At the climax of the match, Sting and Vampiro fought to the top of WCW's big screen and Sting swaps out with a stuntman. Vampiro then lights the stuntman on fire, who crashes through from the screen onto the stage area. While at least WCW had the sense enough to get a trained stuntman take the fall, any angle involving a wrestler falling from a great height should have been immediately nixed in the wake of Owen Hart's tragic death, which was still all-too-fresh in the memories of fans and wrestlers alike. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgCQc5N8A3g
