10 Times WCW Went Way Too Far

4. Monday 4th January, 1999

One of Eric Bischoff's and WCW's most well-tested battle plans during the Monday Night War was to learn the result of the pre-taped episodes of Raw, and reveal them on air. This proved to be the biggest misfire in the entire war, and possibly the last nail in the WCW coffin. On January 4th, 1999, Tony Schivone announced
"If you're even thinking about changing the channel to our competition, fans do not, because we understand that Mick Foley, who wrestled here one time as Cactus Jack, is gonna in their World Title. Huh! That's gonna put some butts in the seat!"
What was intended to be a flippant remark about how unnecessary Raw was proved to be WCW's undoing as reportedly 600,000 fans switched the channel to see if Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy was really going to win that title. That's not all though, as January 4th, 1999 saw the infamous Fingerpoke of Doom incident where instead of clashing for the WCW Championship, Kevin Nash sold a finger-poke from Hogan like a knock-out blow, allowing Hogan to win the title and reunite the nWo. These two factors came together to decide the fate of the Monday Night War, as WCW never won the ratings battle again from this point onwards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGOvL4TQACM
