10 Times Wrestlers Bled The Hard Way In The PG-Era

The Blade Jobs...

3. CM Punk Blades Against Lawler, Or Does He?

What's the best way for a beloved face to complete a heel turn that would get even your grandmother reaching for a switchblade? Why, thump the Monday blues out of a commentator of course. After turning heel at Wrestlemania X-7, WWE Champion Steve Austin savaged national treasure and best pal, JR, and to follow this hallowed tradition, when it came time for this journey to the dark side, WWE Champion CM Punk attacked Jerry 'The King' Lawler. The altercation between the two men led to a cage match on RAW, during which Punk starts to bleed quite profusely from his head. The big question was: did he blade? Now, the other two 'blade jobs' on this list happened within a year of the rating change so perhaps they could be excused, but this happened in 2012. It would be a huge no-no if he did. On one side of the argument, in the video below, Punk can be seen raising his hand to his forehead as he smacks into the cage wall. As he falls to the mat in pain, we see referee Charles 'Little Naitch' Robinson reach to the mat and then move his hand behind his back, perhaps removing the razor blade, Punk had used to cut himself. https://youtu.be/H9fUY6xVcpw?t=46 Or of course, Punk's head could have simply hit the wrong part of the steel. He did need to get stitches (rarely, if ever needed for blades) and wasn't fined, so make of that what you will. But is it too much to imagine that one of the WWE's biggest rebels would choose to refute one of their biggest rules?
