10 Times Wrestlers Fooled You Into Thinking They Were Someone Else
8. Chris Jericho As Sin Cara
When rumours started making the rounds in late 2016 that Sin Cara (as played by Hunico) had knocked out Chris Jericho backstage in England, Jericho was quick to take to Twitter to debunk the alleged claims. Further details soon emerged and the incident was actually just a heated confrontation on a tour bus in Europe.
Notwithstanding, the rumour gained a lot of traction, as both men had a long history of having a short fuse. Hunico had apparently laid into Simon Gotch earlier that year, while Jericho had impressively stood up to Brock Lesnar backstage at SummerSlam, after “The Beast” was done manhandling Randy Orton in the main event.
Regardless of the extent of the altercation, Y2J’s response to the Sin Cara rumour was superb. During Kevin Owens’ Universal Title defence on the November 21st episode of Raw, a man in a Sin Cara mask jumped the challenger, Seth Rollins, and cost him the title. That man was quickly revealed to be Chris Jericho.
Though brief in its execution, Jericho’s appearance under the hood of Sin Cara was classic Y2J; a subtle nod to smart fans, a cool visual to casual fans, and firm middle finger to those fuelling the rumour mill, all weaved in an effective way to further a storyline.
