10 Times Wrestlers Fooled You Into Thinking They Were Someone Else
5. Chris Jericho As Doink The Clown
When Intercontinental Championship contender William Regal faced off with Crash Holly prior to WrestleMania X7, it’s fair to say that no-one in the crowd or watching at home expected Doink the Clown to make an appearance.
Scheduled for the Gimmick Battle Royal at Mania itself, Doink wouldn’t wait until the “Showcase of the Immortals” to get in on the action. In a bizarre run-in, the green haired joker came through the crowd and attacked Regal on Raw. However, all was not as it seemed with the “Clown Prince of WWE”, suspiciously agile for an ageing jobber to the stars.
Unfortunately for Regal, the Doink that hit the ring that night was, in fact, Chris Jericho. With Regal taken off-guard, Y2J wasted no time applying the Walls of Jericho, giving Regal a taste of what he had coming for him at WrestleMania.
Ultimately, Jericho's plan worked perfectly. Y2J would defeat the rattled Englishman just days later at WrestleMania in Houston, retaining his Intercontinental Championship in the process. The same success wasn't true for Doink, however, who fell short of victory in the Gimmick Battle Royal - a match eventually won by The Iron Sheik.
