10 Times Wrestlers No-Sold Killer Moves

8. Roddy Piper No-Sells Ric Flair's Chops

The Knife-Edge Chop is a simple-yet-actually-painful maneuver that is so inextricably-tied to Ric Flair that fans still shout "WOO!" whenever anybody uses it. Apparently, though, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper did not get the memo.

Ric Flair's first match with the WWF was a Traditional 4-on-4 Elimination Tag Match at the 1991 Survivor Series, and he and Piper were placed on opposing teams. Near the conclusion of the match, Ted DiBiase tagged in Flair as Virgil tagged in Piper, the latter of whom responded to the former's Knife-Edge Chops by not responding to his Knife-Edge Chops.

Instead of reacting as if he'd just been shot in the chest from the inside as everyone else does when Ric Flair chops them, Piper stood resolutely by his corner and poked Flair in the eyes, sending him to the opposite side of the ring. While this did help to put Flair over as an all-talk, chickens**t heel (especially considering how the match ended with everybody except Flair being disqualified), it probably wasn't the best look for his first match with the company.

After all, this is Ric Flair here; a multiple-time World Champion who'd long earned universal acclaim for his barn-burning matches. And here he was, being made to look like a hapless joke.

So again, while it's fully understandable to book a detestable, cowardly heel as such, it's a bit overkill to pretend as if his offense is completely useless.
