10 Times Wrestlers Shot Themselves Into A Work
2. Mr McMahon
In an astounding display of being severely out of touch, Vincent Kennedy McMahon believed his notorious 'Bret Screwed Bret' promo would make him the good guy in fans' eyes. Still sporting a shiner from a locker room altercation with the Hitman, McMahon threw kayfabe to the wind and chastised Hart for rebuffing the "time-honoured tradition" of jobbing on the way out.
McMahon's crack at placing all of the blame on Hart backfired royally and furious fans quickly began booing the snot out of McMahon whenever he appeared. With rising babyface star Steve Austin in need of a despicable nemesis, McMahon repackaged himself as the now legendary Mr McMahon heel character.
Cutting heat magnet promos most of his employees could only dream of, McMahon's feud with Austin was a game-changer that turned the Monday Night Wars around for WWE. Fully committed to the nefarious boss role, McMahon took bumps and embarrassments on a weekly basis to sell the angle further. A veteran babyface commentator in years gone by, the Chairman's incredible repackaging would've lacked legs to stand on had he not inadvertently ticked viewers off so much initially.
