10 Times Wrestlers Stole An Opponent’s Finisher (& Did It BETTER)

2. Randy Orton - STF (WWE Royal Rumble 2014)

John Cena's STF is horrendous.

It is egregiously crap because Cena can apply the hold with bite and ferocity behind it. He doesn't; not all the time. It makes the occurrences when he does put all his might into the submission mean something, though it isn't quite the character beat he views it as. He is in essence burying both himself and the opponents who he has beaten with the, shall we say, fundamental version of the STF.

Shawn Michaels and Triple H have succumbed to the "normal" version, at WrestleMania no less, but he required his full knowledge and application of the hold against...The Miz...at Over The Limit...but not seven weeks earlier...when they headlined WrestleMania themselves.

Again: horrendous.

It means that whenever you witness an STF being applied to its fullest extent, you let out a sigh of frustration toward WWE's prophesied 'Greatest of All Time'. Case in point, the 2014 Royal Rumble, and Randy Orton's unleashing of a legitimately killer STF attempt. It began with Orton wrapping up Cena's leg, contorting the limb at a rough 45-degree angle. From there, he tucked his right arm under Cena's chin and cinched, later moving to a sleeper hold position to succinctly cut off the flow of oxygen.

It was made even better by the look of absolute fear in Cena's eyes. In that moment, it became clear that WWE had wasted an all-timer of a submission.
